Glad You Asked That

This Month’s Question:

We are having a family portrait. How important is it to coordinate our clothing?

Clothing style and colors will set the stage of your portrait. It can also make or break a portrait. For example: Mom is dressed in a formal dress Dad comes in blue jeans and a flannel shirt. Grandma’s wearing a very large floral print dress, while everyone else is dressed in dark solid colors.  Some guidelines are:

  1. Set the tone; formal or casual
  2. Avoid big bold prints.
  3. Solid colors are always best. The attention is off of your clothing and on you.
  4. Coordinate tonality: choose a tone/color and have the color blend. Everyone does not need to match but similar tones are a good way to go.
  5. Having a clothing consultation is very important. Getting ideas of what works and what doesn’t will help you when choosing what kind of look you want for your portrait.
